How to choose your Guatemala circuit?
Duration determines the regional breakdown. On an 8 to 12-day format, we combine Antigua, the highlands around Lake Atitlán and Chichicastenango, then Tikal via a domestic flight from Guatemala City. It's the classic itinerary that gives a true reading of the country without rushing. On a 13 to 17-day format, you add Semuc Champey in the Verapaces, the Caribbean coast towards Rio Dulce and Livingston, or secondary archaeological sites in Petén like Yaxhá and El Mirador. Three weeks also allow you to include an extension to neighboring Honduras for Copán, another Mayan gem just 5 hours by road from Rio Dulce.
Different types of circuits
Our cultural itineraries focus on living Mayan culture: markets in Chichicastenango and San Francisco El Alto, Maximón ceremonies in Santiago Atitlán, weaving workshops in San Juan La Laguna, encounters with Tzutuhil families. Adventure circuits include the two-day climb of Acatenango facing Fuego's eruptions, the five-day El Mirador trek through the jungle, tubing at Semuc Champey or surfing on the Pacific coast. For family trips, we favor longer stays, activities suited to children like turtle sanctuaries, gentle climbing and swimming, while limiting long driving days.
What is the best season?
The dry season runs from November to April, the most comfortable period to travel through the country. Temperatures on the highlands average around 22°C during the day and drop to 8-12°C at night in December-January. Petén stays warm, 28 to 32°C year-round. The green season, from May to October, brings afternoon showers but offers greener landscapes, particularly photogenic around Atitlán. September has the heaviest rainfall and is best avoided for Petén. Our peak season runs from November to March, with a second interesting window in June for those who accept some showers in exchange for almost-empty sites.
