Ixpanpajul Natural Park is a private ecotourism reserve located in Petén department, in northern Guatemala. Situated between the exits of Flores and Santa Elena, it combines forest trails, suspended bridges and zip-lines above the canopy. The Tarzan Tour

Wildlife is most active at dawn and dusk, regardless of season. Guatemalan school holidays can bring higher visitor numbers to campsites and popular activities.

Getting there

From Guatemala City, the quickest option is a domestic flight to Flores airport (approximately 1 hour). From Flores, allow about 45 minutes by taxi or rental car to reach the park entrance. Local buses are cheaper but slower and less comfortable. For travelers coming overland from Río Dulce or Cobán, access is direct via the road connecting Santa Elena.

Flores — Situated 15 minutes from Ixpanpajul, this small island town on Lake Petén Itzá hosts hotels, restaurants and tour operators. It serves as a logical base for exploring the region.

Tikal — This major Maya city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, can be visited in a day from Flores. Temples, ceremonial plazas and abundant wildlife make it an obvious cultural complement to Ixpanpajul.
